The Masquerade Heartthrob--A Custom Cocktail for Shaindel Beers' Booktails Literary Podcast EP2

Updated: Aug 16, 2020

Hot Redhead Media is pleased to release our newest episode of our Booktails podcast this August 15th, with an electric reading and conversation with celebrated poet and fiction author Shaindel Beers, reading from her newest book of poems Secure Your Own Mask.

Heather Fowler and Reine Dugas co-host this monthly HRM books and drinks series intended to give introverts the chance to hear talented literary authors talk about and read from their newest books, while listening from the comfort of their own couch, pants optional, with a boozy treat of a beverage in hand.

Here is the cocktail Reine has created in the spirit of Shaindel's fierce and wide-ranging book about survival, beauty, human masks, and autonomy---so you now have two weeks to get all the ingredients and prepare for having your cocktail when the podcast drops on the evening of August 15th.

Please subscribe to both the blog and the podcast for more updates and installments of the latest features!

And now...

The delicious Masquerade Heartthrob

1 1/2 ounces vodka*

1/2 ounce raspberry puree,

1/2 ounce grapefruit juice

splash of soda

dash of Angostura bitters

Combine vodka, raspberry puree, and grapefruit juice in a shaker. Add ice and shake for 20 seconds. Put your whole heart in it.

Pour into a rocks glass, and add a splash of soda and a dash of bitters. Drink with all the masked passion you can muster.

*We (and the author, who likes to support her local breweries and brands--listen for her Oregon beer brewery shout outs in the podcast!), recommend Glacier 45 Distillery Vodka for this cocktail. It’s delish!

Note for sobriety seekers: This cocktail can also be made into a tasty mocktail with just an extra dash of alcohol-free vodka or any vodka alternative.
